Laser Cladding Delivers Long-Term Protection:

Far Less Deposit Build-Up After 16,000 Operating Hours

A recent inspection of the combustion chamber in a waste‑wood power plant, carried out just before boiler cleaning, clearly demonstrates the success of the laser‑cladded membrane walls installed around two years ago. The most striking feature is the significantly reduced deposit build‑up in the areas treated with laser cladding – a clear indication of improved heat transfer and lower cleaning and maintenance effort.

After approximately 16,000 operating hours, the laser‑cladded layer is still in remarkably good condition: there are no visible signs of corrosion or wear, and no measurable wall thinning has been detected. By comparison, unprotected tube walls in this section of the boiler typically reach a service life of only 20,000 to 25,000 operating hours – a limit that, with the coated solution, is expected to be comfortably exceeded within the current year.

The results to date underline the long‑term effectiveness of the laser cladding process in demanding boiler service, providing sustainable protection and contributing to higher availability of the overall plant.
