Häuser & Co GmbH –
a company with an inventive spirit

As an innovation-driven company with over 30 years’ experience in thermal spraying of metallic and ceramic materials for a wide range of industrial applications, Häuser & Co GmbH possesses in-depth knowledge of how a coating must be designed specifically for high-temperature service. However, processes evolve continuously—and so do the demands they place on coatings.

For this reason, we not only offer application-specific alloys and coating solutions; we also continuously advance existing coating techniques and materials in a practice-oriented manner, in close collaboration with our customers.

The result: coating solutions specifically designed for your application—technically optimised and tailored to your individual requirements.

Since 2014, our laser spraying process has enabled us to apply proven materials and alloys—such as HASTELLOY™, INCONEL™ 625/686 or STELLITE™ 21—to components with a metallurgical bond. With very low dilution, high purity and homogeneity are achieved, allowing the full potential of these materials to be utilised.

Our working approach in detail

Experience that counts

Our expertise is built on decades of hands-on practice in power plants and chemical facilities—as plant managers, technical managers and project leads. We understand requirements, challenges and workflows not just from textbooks, but from day-to-day operations. This solid know-how enables tailored solutions that truly deliver in practice.

Data-driven work – precise and tailored

A central element of our work is assessing the chemical and mechanical influences in your plant on the basis of your operating data. These include, among others:

These parameters provide an accurate picture of operating conditions and loads. Supplemented by plant-specific factors—such as the position and design of your sootblowers—we derive bespoke coating concepts that are technically robust and economically sound.

Diverse coating solutions for heavy industry

Our expertise goes far beyond coating membrane walls and tubes. A few examples:

Whether in power generation or the chemical, steel or metallurgical industries—we offer innovative coating solutions that address the specific challenges of your sector.

Assessment & after-sales service: more than just delivery

Our commitment does not end with the delivery of coated components. We are your partner for:

Our goal: your plant runs longer, safer and more efficiently.

The History of Häuser & Co GmbH

More than twenty-five permanent members of staff form the solid foundation of Häuser & Co GmbH in Duisburg today.

The company was founded and long led by Bodo Häuser. Now in its second generation, his son Hendrik has been part of the company since 2006 and has served as Managing Director since 2014. The long-term continuity of Häuser & Co GmbH as a classic, owner-managed family business is thereby assured.

The roots of the company and its know-how, however, reach far beyond its founding in 1995. They trace back to Bodo Häuser’s graduation in process engineering in the late 1970s—the subject of his diploma thesis: “The Influence of Differing Coefficients of Thermal Expansion in the Processing of Hard Alloys by Plasma Spraying.”

From 1978 to 1982, he worked at Lurgi AG in the chemical engineering department. He subsequently established the teaching and research field of materials science at the Technical University of Aachen (TH Aachen), with a focus on thermal spraying. Five years later, he returned to industry as head of the thermal spraying department at Thyssen AG.

1995

During his time at Thyssen AG, Bodo Häuser had developed a process for the on-site coating of highly stressed components using plasma spraying.

In 1995, he acquired the patent for this process from his employer and, drawing on his extensive experience in both industry and research, founded what is today Häuser & Co GmbH.

2006

Now in its second generation, Hendrik Häuser has been part of the company since 2006 and has served as Managing Director since 2014. The long-term continuity of Häuser & Co GmbH as a classic, owner-managed family business is thereby assured.

2013

Building on the highly advanced laser spraying process, Häuser & Co GmbH has developed entirely new products and applications for the optimisation and refinement of surfaces. A notable example is the patent application for the coating of membrane walls with nickel-based materials as an alternative to conventional weld overlay cladding.

2019

We set new standards in the protection of critical components. Sootblower tubes and steam lances, exposed to extreme thermal and mechanical loads, frequently suffer from severe material loss—resulting in premature replacements and high costs. Where others see only wear, we see potential.

With bespoke, metal-based coating systems, we offer solutions that not only deliver on their promise but also support your production chain with flexibility. Whether plasma spraying, arc spraying or laser spraying—our processes adapt to your requirements, regardless of whether the nozzles are fitted before or after welding.

It is not only the technology that makes the difference—so do the materials: from nickel-based high-performance alloys such as Inconel to our proprietary HS alloys and FeCr alloys with outstanding wear resistance—we offer a versatile portfolio that rises to your challenges.

2023

Thin-Layer Laser Cladding – Thinner. Faster. Better.

Minimising the layer thickness of protective coatings offers not only technical but also significant economic advantages. In laser cladding, reducing layer thickness to below 0.5 mm is only achievable by increasing process speed. We faced these challenges—and overcame them.

New challenges at speeds above 5 m/min:

  • Stable powder feed and delivery into the laser beam
  • Shorter dwell times of the powder in the laser beam and melt pool
  • Controlled shielding gas atmosphere beneath the processing nozzle
  • Camera-controlled process management for absolute stability
  • Minimal tolerances in the distance between nozzle and component

In early 2025, we achieved for the first time the application of a laser cladding layer of Inconel 625 with a thickness of only 0.2 mm onto boiler tubes, at a process speed of approximately 27 m/min.

The test tubes have been installed in a French power plant, where they are being tested under real operating conditions over a period of approximately three years.

Synergy of Welding and Protection – Maximum Service Life Through Intelligent Layering

A superheater tube with an Inconel 625 weld overlay undoubtedly offers excellent corrosion resistance—but under mechanical load, its weakness soon becomes apparent: wear. The solution? A plasma-sprayed layer of a highly wear-resistant nickel-based alloy that not only doubles the component’s resistance but combines the best of both worlds.

While the Inconel 625 weld overlay serves as the corrosion-resistant foundation, the abrasion-resistant protective layer takes on the challenge of mechanical wear. Its specific alloy composition makes it the ideal partner—ensuring that the customer receives not merely a protective coating, but a system that doubles the service life of the component.

Precision meets performance: at Häuser & Co GmbH, we rely on intelligent layer combinations that not only deliver on their promise but exceed expectations. Because true durability is achieved where materials do not work against each other—but with each other.
